Welcome to The Third Conversation

EPISODE 0 · PILOT

The conversations that change us rarely happen first.

The Pilot is where The Third Conversation begins.

It's a short introduction to the idea behind the podcast, why it exists and what you can expect as we begin Season One.

But The Third Conversation was never intended to be something you simply listen to and move on from.

The conversations around the table are only the beginning.

Continue the Conversation is your invitation to stay with the question a little longer.

For every episode, we'll gather things to read, watch and listen to, prompts to help you reflect or start your own conversation, and, where the subject calls for it, trusted places to find further information and support.

There won't always be a neat answer.

That's rather the point.

REFLECT

Before the first conversation begins, we'd love you to think about conversations themselves.

When was the last time a conversation genuinely changed something for you?

Perhaps it changed your mind.

Perhaps it helped you understand someone differently.

Perhaps you finally said something you'd been carrying for a long time.

Or perhaps nothing was resolved at all — but something shifted simply because it had finally been said.

Who do you have your most honest conversations with?

Think about the people with whom you can get beyond “I'm fine.”

What is it about them that makes that possible?

Is it trust? Time? Curiosity? Feeling safe enough to disagree? Knowing you won't be judged?

And are you that person for somebody else?

What aren't we talking about enough?

There are subjects we talk about easily.

And then there are the conversations we circle around, avoid, postpone or only reach once we've moved beyond the first answer.

What do you wish we talked about more openly?

What would you put around the table?

If you could bring three people together around one meaningful human question, what would you ask them?

Hold onto it.

It might just become a future Third Conversation.

READ

As Season One unfolds, this space will grow alongside the conversations.

For each episode, we'll curate books, articles, essays and other writing that can help you explore the question from another perspective.

They won't be a required reading list.

And they won't necessarily agree with one another.

They're simply places you might choose to go next.

WATCH

Sometimes another person's story, an unexpected perspective or a few minutes of somebody speaking openly can take a conversation somewhere completely different.

We'll share talks, documentaries, interviews and other things we think are worth watching alongside each episode.

Not because they provide the answer.

Because they might give you another question.

LISTEN

Yes, we're recommending things to listen to alongside a podcast.

There are brilliant conversations happening everywhere.

We'll share other podcasts, audio, interviews and stories that connect with the themes around each table — particularly when they offer a perspective we didn't reach ourselves.

FIND SUPPORT

Some of the questions we're exploring in Season One touch on deeply personal experiences.

We'll talk about grief. Money. Parenting. Identity. Inclusion. Asking for help. Men's experiences. Changes to our bodies. Belonging.

A podcast conversation isn't a substitute for professional information or support.

So where a conversation touches on something that may feel difficult, personal or particularly close to home, we'll use this space to signpost to trusted organisations and sources of specialist support.

Not every episode will need this section.

But when it matters, it will be here.

PULL UP A CHAIR

What Does Confidence Actually Look Like?

Seb Alexander · Gavin Strange · Angela Da Silva

Our first conversation asks what confidence really looks like.

Is confidence something we have, something we perform or something we build?

Can other people give us confidence?

Can we look completely confident while feeling anything but?

And does our understanding of confidence change as we get older?

Episode 1 arrives Wednesday 30 September 2026.

About Continue the Conversation

Continue the Conversation is designed to help you explore the questions and themes raised in each episode of The Third Conversation.

Resources are shared for information and further exploration. Their inclusion doesn't necessarily represent endorsement of every view expressed.

The Third Conversation does not provide medical, mental health, financial or legal advice. Where appropriate, we'll signpost to established organisations that can provide specialist information or support.

The Third Conversation is a podcast and community project from 3LB Consultancy, created and hosted by Fern Hughes.
